Obsessed with Shimmer: A Review of Metallic Uniball Ones

Obsessed with Shimmer: A Review of Metallic Uniball Ones

Although it's only the beginning of 2025, Finn made an observation that I just can't ignore: Brilliance is back. While this trend definitely applies to stationery so far, I am seeing it everywhere! From the sparkle-studded outfits worn by Sabrina Carpenter and Shakira in the Grammys to the presence of sequins back on the rack in stores, it seems clear that this year will be all about glitz and glam.

Uniball One's 2025 Limited Edition Gel Pens: A Collector's Guide

Uni is no stranger to dropping envious limited edition shades! My recent favorites include the Uniball One P Bath Bomb Edition and the adorable Uniball One Yuru Matope summer set. As the year progresses, we're going to be seeing even more unique releases with the upcoming Uniball One P Flavor Jelly Limited Edition, which reminds me so much of those old retro Gameboys!

But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. To start off the new year they've decided to release some really neat shades: Shimmer Soft Pink, Shimmer Mint Green, Shimmer Light Blue, Gold Metallic, Silver Metallic, and White Metallic color.

So is it worth picking these up? That definitely depends on what you plan to use them for!

Pros and Cons of The Metallic Shades

These metallic gel pens are probably not the best for note taking in college. They are a bit drier than your average Uni which means they are not ideal for writing long paragraphs, but they are really great for journaling spreads, scrapbooking, and drawing.

As is the case for most Uniball gel pens, these are not a great option for fast writers or anyone using low-quality paper. You'll definitely find them an absolute pleasure to use in your planner (especially if your planner uses Tomoe River Paper).

That being said, when I compare them to my Zebra Sarasa Clip Metallic Pens these dry slightly slower. If you're left-handed or like to highlight over your writing without worrying about a smudge, you'll probably prefer the Sarasa gel pens. However, if you don't mind waiting and want a more saturated color, you may prefer the feel of writing with a Uniball.

If you're planning to write or create art with dark paper, you're going to love these! I definitely think these Uniball One metallic pens are worth the hype for artists. They are amazing for adding precise details and are great for slower, more detail-oriented work. One note though: the metallic color definitely has more of a shimmer than a sparkle. It is subtle but still very gorgeous and I've found some great use cases for it.

Final Notes & Where To Buy

Overall, I'm a big fan of these new shades. I especially enjoy the pastel color choice for the blue, green, and pink gel pens. My personal favorite is probably the white because I am loving how easy it is to use for adding final touches to my art pieces. If you end up picking these up, I'd love to see what you use them for!
